Welcome to T.R.A.C.E.2010! We are pleased to announce we will be moving forward with our legislative initiative this year. T.R.A.C.E. is also pleased to announce the development that State Representative Mary Ann Shallcross-Smith has joined our team and placed our Bill as her chief priority. T.R.A.C.E. warmly thanks Representative Shallcross-Smith for committing herself to work with us to achieve our goals!!
Returning from 2009 with a year of legislative experience under our belt we feel we are carrying a more insightful eye into the procedure of accomplishing our goal to allow RI adult adoptees unrestricted access to their Original Birth Certificate (OBC). We now realize that in order to accomplish this goal we need to chart a new strategy consisting of a two-step process and commit ourselves to following through.
Due to deep concerns within the legislature upon the passage of this law it seems in order for any adoptee to have any type of access to their OBC we will have to accept an amended version of our Bill. Although a team concern is that we are compromising promises we've made as an organization, we promise we are not compromising our integrity or our mission. We are a committed team and it is very important to us to commit to the most effective strategy that will be the vehicle to our final goal of all RI Adult Adoptees having unrestricted access to an unaltered copy of his/her Original Birth Certificate.
An analogy that has surfaced and has slowly become our team's mantra is, "Let's chop down the tree now and go back and get the stump later." By accepting a few amendments it will allow approximately 99% of adoptees, if not more, access to their OBC. If we do not accept the proposed amendments than we risk 0% of adoptees having access to their OBC.

Group of Adoptees Looks to 'TRACE' Roots 4/01/09
We are a Rhode Island organization advocating for Unrestricted Access to Original Birth Certificates (OBC's) for Rhode Island Born Adult Adoptees.
We are a grass-root effort looking to have legislation passed allowing adoptees to gain access to a non-certified copy of their non-amended, or original, birth certificate.
What We Need To Do
We NEED to generate as much support as possible from ALL Rhode Island residents, especially RI born adoptees, natural parents who relinquished a child to adoption in Rhode Island, and Adoptive Parents as well.
We are currently forming a strategy based on the proposed Amendments on our Bill that we feel will be most effective in 2010.
